WESGen® – Water Energy System Generators
In-river tested
Prototypes tested on three North West rivers: the Wyre, Tame and Dane. We're now advancing the technology towards commercially deployable configurations.
Scalable
Built for global markets
From 5 kW submersible Homesteader units to multi-megawatt floating hydro farms on barges, with onboard maintenance access.
Designed to be shipped, installed and maintained by a local workforce. Can be paired with filtration and pumping to supply clean water.
Continuous renewable power from the natural flow of rivers
1
Comprehensive patent application
Nearly 90 pages covering the core WESGen® design and multiple embodiments for future development.
2
High Export Potential
Status awarded by the UK Department for Business and Trade.
3
Startup of the Year
Winner, Green Expo Awards 2023, sponsored by EA Technology.
4
50+ inbound enquiries
From 10–20 kW off-grid users to multi-megawatt developers and distributors.
One platform: from homestead to hydro farm
Homesteader
Submersible units for off-grid homes, farms and small businesses, sold through distributors.
5–20 kW
Commercial
Bridge-column and moored systems supplying industrial sites, local authorities and community micro-grids.
Bridge & moored
Floating hydro farms
Barge-mounted arrays with onboard maintenance, generating for national grids and long-term power contracts.
Multi-MW
How WESGen® works
1
Moor in the flow
Floating or submersible units are anchored in the current, or mounted on existing structures such as bridge columns.
2
Generate continuously
The river turns the rotor around the clock; output follows the flow, not the weather or time of day.
3
Connect to shore
A single cable delivers power to a home, a community micro-grid or, at farm scale, the national grid.
4
Scale by adding units
Multiple generators link together into floating, barge-mounted hydro farms with onboard maintenance access.
Future potential: protected for what comes next
Rivers & waterways
Floating and submersible units, from homestead systems to multi-megawatt hydro farms.
In development
Existing structures
Units mounted on bridge columns and other structures already standing in the flow.
Next
Offshore
Clamp-on generators for offshore wind turbine columns and rigs, adding output from the currents around existing assets.
Future
From prototype to commercial deployment
Submersible unit
First submersible unit tested on the River Wyre, Lancashire.
Early prototype
Floating version
Adapted to a floating system and tested on the River Tame, Greater Manchester.
Development
In River Hydro Ltd
Company formed to take the technology to market.
2025
Larger rotor
Scaled-up prototype rotor tested on the River Dane, Cheshire.
2026
IP & export status
Comprehensive patent application filed; High Export Potential status from the Department for Business and Trade.
2026
Commissioning trials
Larger-scale trials of commercial configurations, from homestead units towards floating hydro farms.
